01-14-2013 Monday Recruiting Thread (Official Visit Updates and a Look at 2014 QB Targets)

Keller Chryst is a 4-Star prospect from Palo Alto, CA. He is a long shot for the Dawgs to land, but he is on UGA recruiting board.

Quinton Flowers is a 4-Star prospect from Miami, FL. He is one of the top DUAL threat QB’s in the country. Getting Flowers out of the state of Florida will be the tough part.

In this video we take a look at two QB prospects. Brooks Barden out of Cartersville, GA and Deshaun Watson out of Gainesville, Ga. Barden is a 3-Star pro style QB while Watson is a 4-Star DUAL threat QB. Both have very strong arms and both stand at the top of UGA radar list for QB’s in 2014.

OFFICIAL VISIT UPDATES:

Reuben Foster: Foster arrived back from his Washington trip and told media that Washington had a high chance to sign him on NSD. Foster is down to Bama, Wash, Auburn, and Georgia. Foster will take a few more official visits and it seems he will visit UGA the weekend on Jan. 25th, the same weekend UGA will host Monty Adams and a few others. Reuben says he might wait till after NSD to decide, and I believe that has a lot to do with academics. If he can qualify, he will be in the SEC at one of the three schools. Tray Mathews (Foster’s best friend) says that Auburn is eliminated from the equation. We will see……

Laremy Tunsil: Tunsil visited Tuscaloosa, Al this past weekend. He received a lot of attention from the coaching staff and Alabama tried to pull out all the tricks to land the 5-star OT from Florida. Tunsil enjoyed his trip to Bama, but UGA is still the clear cut leader for Tunsil and has been since the summer. Tunsil’s next stop will be in Athens, Ga and that could seal the deal as to where Tunsil will spend his next 3-4 years.

Montravius Adams: Adams has taken numerous visits to Clemson, and it has always seemed that the Tigers were the team to beat to land Adams. The fact that he went on his official visit and did not commit is very encouraging for Dawg fans. UGA coaching staff met with Adams Friday before he left town and new defensive line coach Chris Wilson had the opportunity to sit down with Adams and bond. That talk went very well, and UGA will host Adams on Jan. 25th with the opportunity to give Adams something to think about before NSD. This is a Clemson-UGA battle and the next few weeks will be interesting in this process.

Alvin Kamara: Mike Bobo, McClendon, Friend, and Lilly made an in-home visit to Kamara on Sunday afternoon. The talk went very well and as of right now in his recruiting process, UGA has a very good chance at landing Kamara. Kamara will take an official visit to Alabama next weekend, and UGA the following. As of right now, I see UGA a 75/25 favorite to sign him on NSD. The next two weeks will be the deciding factor.

Shaq Wiggins: Wiggins left Columbia, SC Sunday and said that the Gamecocks had a legit shot to switch him…..but he has been a media darling for over 6 months now and still is committed to the Georgia Bulldogs. Mark Richt called Wiggins on Sunday night and had a very good conversation. Wiggins is about a 2% chance of decommitting to Georgia, and it has been known that he wants to be a Georgia Bulldog for a long time. Wiggins has enjoyed the recruiting process, and who can blame him, this only happens once in a lifetime.

Matthew Thomas: We currently have no update on Thomas visit to Alabama except for the fact that he still has not clear cut #1. He will visit Athens on Feb 1st, a couple days before NSD.

Come talk UGA Football with us right here all day as we are a couple of weeks away from NSD!!! Go Dawgs!!

saw the news about watson down below and it reminded me of discussion about him a while back on lhb, in which it was asserted that uga was not interested and would focus more on another qb with a huge arm (name escapes me right now). anyone have any thoughts/ideas/info about what happened?

Go Dawgs. I think we finish with Johnson, Tunsil, and one of the other four. The rest are all maybe's, but I feel like one (hopefully two or three) will go our way.

what are MA and RF's academic issues? Is their a timetable on when their could be an answer?

bigredballer 21022 pts moderator

@DostaDawg77 Foster is a test scores problem, Adams I'm not 100% sure on. Should know soon bc UGA and Bama will not accept papers without knowing they qualify.

bigredballer  DostaDawg77 Thanks for the info! Go Dawgs!!!!

Who do you guys think will get more early playing time?  Wilkerson, Langley, or Shaq?

Dawgholio 40514 pts

dapperdanman (Be the hammer, not the nail) I'd say Wilkerson

bigredballer 21022 pts moderator

@Dawgholio @dapperdanman (Be the hammer, not the nail) Wilkerson could be your opening day starter on opening day. When Swann moves down to nickel then Dawson and Wilkerson on outside.

If any other dawg fans have any other information they want to share or if they just want to talk UGA to other posters feel free to. It doesn't have to be just a question and answer system, we can get this place hoppin....

Shaq Fluker was at UGA on an official visit this past weekend and confirmed that his recruiting process was over and he was no longer considering any other school

Shaq is gonna be a star!   Really like his game.  Between he, JHC, Tray, and Corey Moore we are in great shape at S.  Think Bostick and Mauger will redshirt, but too early to tell.

crazydawg87 1305 pts

@bigredballer good news,he is a big time hitter, making it scary to cross the middle!!!

bigredballer 21022 pts moderator

Tunsil, Johnson, Kamara, Adams, Foster will all announce on NSD. Huge day

Here's hoping we close better than we did last year on NSD,   I feel like we will, but ya never know.  We were confident on Patterson and Avery Young last year.

Kinda glad we missed on Patterson, and have heard several places that Avery Young was all about $$$$$.

007dawg=Build the indoor football facility now!!! 1965 pts

I heard a few weeks back that Adam Choice was close to commiting to us and then it kind of went quiet.  Anyone got any info about this?

bigredballer 21022 pts moderator

@007dawg=Bro.Chette "ble$$ing" recruits at the Barn I am not exactly sure, but what I do know is that he is not one of our top RB recruit targets. Could be he doesn't have a committable offer yet....

bigredballer 21022 pts moderator

I have to be 100% honest, and I haven't gotten overly happy about this, but we have a very good chance with Matthew Thomas. This all has to do with the Jarvis Jones impact. I would say Miami, but due to their pending probations he is shying away. Also rumors of him cancelling his official to Fla State this coming weekend which hasn't been confirmed. That leaves UGA and Bama

007dawg=Build the indoor football facility now!!! 1965 pts

I feel we have a good chance at him as well.   I'm not sold on Bellamy and he looks like he is re-committed to FSU (my gut tells me he might have potential character issues).   I would lots rather sign Thomas than Bellamy.

bigredballer 21022 pts moderator

@007dawg=Bro.Chette "ble$$ing" recruits at the Barn Bellamy is a backup plan, doesn't have a commitable offer.

bigredballer 21022 pts moderator

If we sign Tunsil, Johnson, Kamara, and two of the next 4 (Thomas, Adams, Foster, Crowder)

YearoftheDawg77 78 pts

 bigredballer

That's great news. Thomas looked like the real deal in the UA game.

Dawgholio 40514 pts

No disrespect to the other fine UGA recruiting blogs out there, but this place should have a ton more people. Brb has been spot on with his information instead of a lot of rumoring like you get other places. To me, this is the go to place for accurate recruiting news. Keep up the good work.

bigredballer 21022 pts moderator

@Dawgholio Thanks!!! I'm glad everyone enjoys it!!!

bigredballer 21022 pts moderator

New dline coach Chris Wilson had a very productive visit with Toby Johnson today.

Dawgholio 40514 pts

bigredballer We might close out all these big names after all. Now I'm concerned over who will qualify

bigredballer 21022 pts moderator

@Dawgholio Yep, I said back in August that this could be one of the best classes UGA has ever said, if we land even 4 out of the final 6 it would be outstanding!!!

richsethhardy 844 pts

any news on the qualification status of Montravious Adams?

bigredballer 21022 pts moderator

@richsethhardy No news on him or Foster yet.....

Bleudawg 50674 pts

Mr. Baller, my question is why would Deshaun Watsonmsign with a school that is as stacked as UGA? Would love to have him. Is he willing to red shirt?

bigredballer 21022 pts moderator

@Bleudawg I'm not trying to mean this in any negative way whatsoever, but Watson would start over Ramsey immediately. I know Mason would be the QB in 2014, but Watson more than likely would as a RS FR

bigredballer 21022 pts moderator

Breaking News on Deshaun Watson- Bobo does not recruit North Ga but he says he is going to handle Deshaun Watson's recruiting process himself. He is planning on offering Deshaun and Watson is their top priority in the 2014 class. UGA does not plan to offer another QB unless Watson shuts them down which doesnt seem to be the case. Watson told Bobo that he loved UGA and always wanted to play at UGA and will seriously consider the Dawgs___

bigredballer Watson is smoooooooth!!!   Really like the way he operates at QB.   Glad to see our coaching staff finally saw it too!

bigredballer 21022 pts moderator

007dawg=Bro.Chette "ble$$ing" recruits at the Barn From my understanding, seeing him take snaps at the Upcoming Senior All-Star game is what sold them on him. They knew what he could do in the shotgun, they wanted to see it under center and they saw what they needed to see.

YearoftheDawg77 78 pts

How do our D-line prospects look for 2014? I think that is the main area we need to get deeper and better at in order to gain the advantage in what looks like could be a yearly battle with Alabama in Atlanta.

bigredballer 21022 pts moderator

@YearoftheDawg77 Check out recruiting page at top and click on 2014 prospects. I have a run down of all Dline targets in 2014 and ones we have offered. Glas you are here!!

bigredballer 21022 pts moderator

Does anyone have any suggestions that they would like on our site? We are open to all ideas to make it as best as possible

bigredballer 21022 pts moderator

I think most of good news is going to come after next two weekends in recruiting

bigredballer 21022 pts moderator

Nick Marshall commits to Auburn. I think everyone saw this coming.

jwweath 87 pts

crazydawg87  bigredballer What I read was as a QB.  Another case of Auburn taking the discards from the rest of the SEC.

007dawg=Build the indoor football facility now!!! 1965 pts

I'll wish Nick well except for one game a year.  Hope he has put his past problems behind him and fulfills his potential.
