01-23-2013 Wednesday Recruiting Thread (NSD Backup Plans)

Jonte Leaston is a 2015 WR prospect

Cameron Cole is another 2015 WR prospect

Graham Smith is a 2015 QB prospect from Virginia and arugably the best QB prospect in his state.

VISITOR LIST:

Yesterday I had the visitor list posted for this weekend. This is the biggest recruiting weekend of the year for the Bulldogs and these are the four prospects that will be on campus.

1) Reuben Foster- 5-Star MLB from Auburn, AL (Auburn, Georgia, Alabama)
2) Montravius Adams- 5-Star DT from Vienna, GA (Clemson, Georgia, Alabama)
3) Alvin Kamara- 4-Star RB from Norcross, GA (Georgia, Alabama)
4) Davin Bellamy- 4-Star DE/OLB (Georgia, FSU, Tennessee)

UGA has 29 commitments in the class of 2013 and has 6 spots available. They have 7-8 main targets left on their recruiting board. Here are a couple of names to watch that could be backup plans come NSD.

1) Jay Woods- 4-Star DT/DE from Jackson, GA. He committed to Vanderbilt back in 2012 because at the time UGA did not have a spot available for Woods. Woods called the UGA staff wanting to be a Bulldog, but the staff informed him that he would not have a spot and he committed to Vandy a couple days later. He is a player to watch if the Bulldogs miss on Adams.

2) Kelsey Griffin- 4-Star DT/DE from Hoschton, GA. He committed to the Bulldogs early on but found out his commitment was not taken by UGA due to grades. The rumor is that Griffin has not gotten his grades taken care of. He is committed to South Carolina but UGA could make a late push after him.

3) Tyrone Crowder- 4-Star OG. He is currently down to UGA and Clemson but UGA has informed him that they do not have a spot for him right now in this class. If UGA happened to miss on Tunsil (which is very unlikely), look for Crowder to get a late commitable offer from the Bulldogs.

4) Tyren Jones- 4-Star RB. He is currently committed to Alabama but if Kamara chooses the Crimson Tide, look for UGA to make a last minute push after Jones. Bama already has 3 RB commits to UGA’s 1.

These are the only four names I would see the Bulldogs going after if they miss on a few names.

Come join us right here, all day as we talk UGA football and recruiting. We are now two weeks away from NSD and the Bulldogs have a couple of HUGE recruiting weekends the next two weeks.

GO DAWGS!!!!

The Bulldogs are up by 3 at the half on a last second buzzer beater by Caldwell-Pope

Basketball team off to a good start!!!

Dawgs up 18-16 with under 8 mins left in 1st half. Florida has never led in the game

How would you rank this year's class compared to others in Mark Richts tenure at UGA. Assuming we kid Tunsil and Johnson and two others

I wish we had room for Woods. He's going to be a good player. He might be better than Adams when it's all said and done

Yes, really worried about what many sources have said about Adams work ethic.

bigredballer 21022 pts moderator

@YearoftheDawg77 @Dawgholio I would like Woods also....I like him more than Griffin to be honest. We will see if he gets last minute interest from Dawgs

South FL Dawg 2143 pts

Really wish we could take Woods as well as Adams and Johnson....sigh.

@South FL Dawg I Agree 100%

Can anyone explain how it is that Crowder is only a take if Tunsil doesn't pick UGA, but yet we were hard after them not that long ago and supposedly the recruiting pitch was that he could line up next to Tunsil?

bigredballer 21022 pts moderator

@South FL Dawg It is very hard to explain, I wish we could take Crowder also.We just claim we do not have another oline spot to give a scholly to.

I wonder if we could pull Jay Woods from Vanderbilt.  That would really have to piss them off after we pulled Dawson last year at the last minute.

@AzzKckrUGA I love making James Franklin mad haha......

I have a question - Are the requirements to qualify at UGA the same as Bama, Ole Miss, Florida, et cetera since we are in the SEC or do those vary by school?

bigredballer 21022 pts moderator

@AzzKckrUGA For the most part the requirements are the same. Little different for Vanderbilt.

bigredballer  AzzKckrUGA I have to disagree a little.  The posted requirements are almsot the same however the Hope scholarship in Ga and a similar scholarship in Fla has raised the bar significantly in admissions.  The athletes that are accepted can have lower entrance critereon then the average student but it has raised the bar for them also.  Bama is close behind UGA and UF and Ole Miss is way down the list.  In fact there have been players in the recent past that have been denied admission to UGA and ended up at one of the Mississippi schools.  And your note above about Griffen being denied admission to UGA due to grades but getting accepted to South Carolina should show the difference there also.  Vandy is the one step ahead of UGA and UF.

I just hope we don't whiff on everyone like we did last year.   Of course, there were reasons for  Patterson$ and Avery Young$'s decisions.

@007dawg=Bro.Chette "ble$$ing" recruits at the Barn I feel we are going to do a lot better than in the past.....

bigredballer I think we have done pretty darn good in the past.  The team plays well togetrher and, in the past, the coaches have filled spots where needed.  They may not have had a lot of depth but they did get some quality guys.  The 4 and 5 stars UGA missed on that ended up at Auburn and Tennessee were for the most parts a bust, which in my mind was due to coaching and not ability.
